St. Catherine of Siena was born on March 25th, 1347, and died on April 29, 1380, at the age of 33. She was a lay member of the Dominican Order who had a great influence on Italian literature and on the Catholic Church. She is one of only four women named a Doctor of the church. She was canonized in 1461.
